Today is the final homeschool day for my six year old's kindergarten year. She finished reading Detective Dog Goes on Vacation by Leslie McGuire.
We played with snap dragon flowers.
These are the best flowers for children. When you gently pinch the sides of the flower, you can make the flower head pretend to roar like a dragon!
We talked about the pollen inside the "dragon's mouth". We picked off the seed pods and looked inside.
I pointed out the difference between the seed pod and the flower bud of the snap dragon. I highly recommend getting full grown plants instead of trying to start the seed yourself. Especially if you are inexperienced with seed starting. This way you're guaranteed to have a fun science lesson.
We also found evidence of a special visitor in our zucchini vegetable bed this morning.
I'm confident this is from either our resident racer snake or a rat snake. We have seen both types of these snakes around our house.
I'm thrilled that today was filled with lots of spontaneous learning! What a great way to end our year! I look forward to a productive April. I will be completing my daughter's homeschool portfolio, having the evaluation done, and finalizing her subjects and curriculum for the beginning of May.
